I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute with a look at WAR MACHINE on Netflix, directed by Patrick Hughes, starring Alan Ritchson. Army Rangers candidates out on a training mission encounter machine aliens that look like they are from BATTLESHIP. War ensues.

3.5 out of 5

Look, this movie is exactly what it wants to be; no more, no less. It is a lean thrill-machine that wants to show carnage, sweaty battle-hard warriors, and cool alien shit that blows up good. It does NOT want meaningful dialogue, love on the battlefield, or commentary of any kind on the real world. I had a good time with it. The pace is relentless, every character gets their one characteristic that defines them, and the action is creative. The colors are washed out which is a little cliched at this point and I do wish the aliens had a little more unique design to them. Your enjoyment may also depend on how much you like rah-rah military propaganda of the industrial military complex in this particular time of 2026.

Best Scene. There is a great cliff-fall scene and a great Humvee chase scene where everything goes off the rails. Bodies smashing and weapons firing in complete chaotic insanity. There is a giddy propulsiveness in these 2 scenes that grabbed me and put a big goofy grin on my face.

Best Performance. Alan Ritchson is really the one-man show in this and he does a decent job. This guy is the perfect Jack Reacher in his eponymous show and from everything I see in interviews, he is a really great guy. He isn’t asked to stretch too far in the acting department here though the stunts must have been strenuous. Oh well, I don’t think anyone is here for Oscar-level performance.

A silly fun military action film, the movie completes its mission and lives up to its blunt slogan, DFQ. Don’t Fucking Quit. Check out when in the mood for some carnage.
