Sasquatch Movie Minute - TRANSCRIPTS of video reviews

Super Mario Galaxy Movie

I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute with a look at THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, directed by Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, and Pierre Leduc, starring the vocal talents of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Brie Larson

*2 out of 5

The asterix is because I fell asleep during the middle third of the movie. I can’t quite blame that on the movie quality though, the theater seats had lower back heaters, so, come on, I didn’t stand a chance! Everything I DID see was kind of middle of the road. Everything felt a little more frantic and messy, more desperate to trigger our nostalgia with a familiar video game sound than offer up plot and character development. Did they really introduce Brie Larson then sideline her in a kidnapping plot for most of the movie?? How odd! The kids will love all the flash, but it seems like the adults will just ‘meh’ this one.

Best Scene. Of what I DID see, I liked Bowser at the beginning in his mini-castle, working through his anger issues with expressive artwork. He is such an odd character in these movies; evil, for sure, and you have to look past his proclivity of apprehending Princess Peach. But he oddly also wants to be a better man for Peach as well, which humanizes him a bit. And Jack Black leans into that take and plays up the one-sided romance. Its interesting!

Best Performance. Other than Jack Black, I still really like the wild energy Keegan-Michael Key brings to Toad. And did they really pay Donald Glover just to squeak out Yoshi’s voice every now and then?? Very Groot-like.

This movie will make a bajillion bucks, so there is really no impetus to make these better than they are. Oh well, just not really my bag!
