Sasquatch Movie Minute - TRANSCRIPTS of video reviews

No One Will Save You (Retro-2023))

I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute with a Wonky Wednesday RETRO look at NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU, a 2023 Hulu movie, directed by Brian Duffield, starring Kaitlyn Dever. A lonely woman battles an alien invasion in her home.

4.5 out of 5

I was looking forward to revisiting this film, its just as good as I remember! Its creepy and tense and wildly creative. There are a few jump scares, but most of the jolts are slowly developed sequences that you can see coming a few seconds before the protagonist does. You see the aliens early and often. I won’t spoil their look, but the alien retro design doesn’t take away from their weird freaky natures. The big gimmick of this film is that there is no dialogue. There are natural sounds and yells of effort, but no words are actually said. It’s a fascinating exercise that may feel strained in a public scene or two; but it doesn’t detract from the beauty and action of the story. I saw where they were going with the ending, but the message didn’t quite land with me.

Best Scene. There is always something new and surprising happening with the aliens; changing tactics, different beings, or uses of their powers. I loved the fight scene with a kid alien and Dever. It was messy and so weird and unpredictable.

Best Performance. This film is all Caitlin Dever and she is spectacular. There is a horrible tragedy in her past that gracefully reveals itself and winds its way through all the alien shenanigans; it artfully mirrors and reflects her journey. Dever effortlessly moves from meek victim to flinty final girl to heartbroken friend, all with her face.

This movie got buried a couple years ago, dig it up and enjoy a tale of self-healing and innovative alien action!
