Sasquatch Movie Minute - TRANSCRIPTS of video reviews
Widow's Bay, S1 (TV)

I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute and its Wonky Wednesday so we are doing a TV Take and looking at WIDOWS BAY, currently in Season 1 on Apple TV, created by Katie Dippold. A funny and spooky saga about a haunted New England island and its cursed residents.
I give Season 1 so far a 4.5 out of 5.
Full stop, every genre fan should be watching this show. It is an unbelievable balance of humor and horror that doesn’t sacrifice the strengths of either genre. The creator sharpened her skills on PARKS AND REC, and that show’s deft play of character and dialogue is on display here. Some episodes feel like the X-FILES with the introduction of a new island legend each week. The characters are quickly but deeply drawn and even when you have someone pegged as a certain stereotype, they reveal a new intriguing facet to their personality. The show’s wit and absurdity balance the scares. And the casually mentioned, hilariously morbid history of the island never fails to get a chuckle out of me!
Best Plotline. Kate O’Flynn’s character is a member of the town staff, always ready with a quick line or sarcastic comment. But the deepening of her flinty character in Episode 4, her aching sadness and need to be included, was heartbreaking.
Best Performance. Matthew Rhys is already a television legend at this point, but if he doesn’t win an Emmy for this, then there is no justice in the world. His fussy, vain, but desperately optimistic character is the mayor of the town, but he constantly looks down on his constituents. The joke is that he is no better than anyone else, and the consistent putdowns he suffers make him relatable. And Rhys looks like he is having so much fun!
If anything of what I am describing sounds like your kind of thing, stop watching me, and check out this awesome show!
