This film gives you what you want; stunningly choreographed and inventive fight scenes. Every fight is different and has something unique about it, though physics need not apply. I’ve never seen ladders or bicycles used in such ways and once a hammer came out, it got real. I read that there was a lot of behind-the-scenes script changes and that explains a lot of things, from how the movie feels over halfway through and the pace flags, just before a bonkers final act. Or how the epilogue is a complete disaster; with shots that don’t make sense and sudden backstory that confuses everything. I also feel like the film whiffs the action beat right at the very end. Warning; some brutal kid endangerment that will feel tough for American audiences, especially early in the film.

Best Scene. I loved the first truck chase as that gave us a full-daylight taste of the insanity to come. But the 5-way finale was stunning. Each fighter had a different well-defined style and seeing the bloody dance work out amongst all of them was delightful.

Best Performance. Hmm, let’s go with Best Presence here as acting wasn’t a priority. The arrow-wielding bad guy played by Yayan Ruhian is terrifying. Stealthy, deadly, I always looked forward to when this guy came onscreen. The guy who fought like Donkey Kong was also delightful.

You know exactly what you are getting with this kind of film. And for those that seek it out, rest assured, you get it!
