A very fun and silly movie that is also compulsively rewatchable. This is the movie comfort food that you can put on at 11pm and fall asleep to. It hits that vein of light action and intriguing escapism. It pushes the audience into fantasizing how their own lives would be on this drug, and that is fun! It is comical how hard the movie runs away from any whiff of commentary about addiction or merit, any deep thoughts would only get in the way of the ride. The visual effects of the drug are funny because of how obvious they are, and the weird deep focus zooms through the city are fun the first time, but not the 30th time.

Best Scene. I love when the movie twists itself into showing ANOTHER person trying the drug when Abbie Cornish’s character takes the drug to save her life. That the solution her 1000IQ brain comes up with involves ice skates and pumping her arms harder is objectively hilarious. I do also like how icky a late scene gets with Cooper trying to get his fix while lying on the floor.

Best Performance. I love this jerk-ass, smarmy stage of Bradley Cooper’s career. He plays these gorgeous intelligent jerks so well, its unfortunate he grew out of this phase.

This film is unabashed dumb fun, its why the clips of Cooper spouting off smart nonsense are still all over social media, we love this kind of what-if fantasy absurdity!
