Outlander, S8 (TV)

I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute and its Wonky Wednesday so we are doing our OULTANDER Part 2 TV Take and looking at the last season, Season 8! Quick show plot summary: A nurse from WW2 time travels to Scotland in the 1700s and falls in love with a brawny Highland warrior.

Season 8 is a 3.5 out of 5

Overall, the season was pretty weak; it burned through a ton of plot yet still felt meandering. The William/Amaranthus and Ridge Mutiny storylines were dull. A shocking death halfway through the season really sharpened everything though; getting a show-best performance from Bree. The finale was a microcosm of the entire show; romantic, repetitive, beautiful, and absurd. I would have been fine with the whole episode being Claire and Jamie in bed talking about bees. I like that we tied up the mystery of the stranger in the rain, and wrapped faith into a full-circle time loop. One reviewer correctly noted that it is perfect for this sexy intimate show to end with a gasp. It is a bizarre, nonsensical, impassioned ending, but it FEELS right and I absolutely love it.

Best Plotline. Jamie’s son William is a pain in the ass, but when he actually took Bree’s advice, and got to know his father, I loved the ensuing gentle healing. That hug between the 2 men, or Jamie’s look back, tore me up.

Best Performance. Claire was oddly sidelined this season, which was a bummer. I’m going to go with Sam Heughan as Jamie. He had so many great scenes this year; though my favorites were him building a coffin and his delicate healing scenes with William.

Damn, I am going to miss this brawny, swooningly romantic show. There was nothing like it.
