I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute with a RETRO look at TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE, a 2004 film, directed by Trey Parker. The eponymous team, played by puppets, must kick ass and take down terrorists, all in the name of America.

This is a sick and twisted little gem from the SOUTH PARK guys, that has actually aged pretty well! If anything, the American tendency to exhibit empty knee-jerk patriotism has gotten far worse so the parody is spot on. I actually find the action-movie parody stuff to be quite dull. The film is best when it gets weird, offensive, and really mean. Like the puppet intimacy, derkaderka refrains, constant assault references, or the hilarious matt damon of it all. This should piss off as many people as possible and each scene should inspire shocked laughter. That is the vein I like in this kind of film, and I felt like it only hit that about 50% of the time. The songs are spectacular; the ‘F Yeah’ theme still used today, though I also love the songs about movie montages and Michael Bay’s ‘Pearl Harbor’. The puppetwork is so fun to watch, but must have been hell to shoot.

Best Scene. I mean, the puppet intimacy is incredible and so creative. Its very silly and over-the-top, but weird and kind of sexy at the same time?

Best Performance. Trey Parker does most of the voices, but his Kim Jong Il is incredible. Of course, it is wildly offensive, but it is also funny and dare I say, kind of sweet?
