Pure ridiculousness, this nonsensical but wildly entertaining film’s best asset is its speed. It never slows down long enough to let you question it. I crave anything that feels different from the Hollywood action machine, and Besson always manages to bring a loopy French creativity to his films. There is always an interesting visual to lock onto. I find it fascinating that the writers equate super-intelligence with loss of emotion. That hospital bed scene where Johansson desperately reaches out on a phone call, her last gasp of feeling, a lonely tear tracking down her face, is stunning. But then ZOOM, we are on to the next cool shit stuff of Lucy pulling cell phone threads out of the air or creating lizard hands.

Best Scene. While I truly adore the cheesy intercuts of Saharan wildlife in the early scenes, I’d have to go with the ending. It gets SO weird and messy, with rocket launchers, time travel, apes, and black tentacles; the fact that the actual final moments are a little underwhelming made me laugh out loud after all that buildup.

Best Performance. Scarlett Johansson covers all the emotions needed here and she makes it look easy. From elaborate stunts, to panic emotion, to robotic nonchalance, she has enough cool panache here to take over the world.

Similar to LIMITLESS, this is a pure guilty-pleasure rollercoaster ride.
