The Invite

I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute at the final Park City Sundance and I am here with a review for THE INVITE

4 out of 5.

This film is directed by Olivia Wilde and stars Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz, and Ed Norton.

Wonderful, hilarious, insightful film; its very play-like, just these 4 actors talking in an apartment at a couples dinner date gone sideways. The film is dedicated to Diane Keaton, and it has the feel of one of her films; a very 60s, hangout film with grain and wit. I do think the momentum can really flag in some of the middle sections. The score was purposely intrusive, I did not like that.

Best scene: I loved the giddy passive aggressive momentum of the beginning that smashes into the title card. There is also a speech about failure near the end that rocked me.

Performance. I did not know Olivia Wilde was capable of this kind of performance. She is wonderful; veering from anger, to panic attack, to insecurity, and over-confidence.

This was a big bidding war purchase at Sundance this year, so it will be out there and I could definitely see this being an Awards contender next year. See it!
