I’m Trevor with the Sasquatch Movie Minute at the final Park City Sundance and I am here with a review for THE HUNTRESS (La Cazadora)

4.5 out of 5.

This film is directed by Suzanne Andrews Correra and stars Adriana Paz.

Wow, this is a stunning, brutal film that examines a true story about sexual violence and the disappearance of young women in Juarez, Mexico. Cinematography is blown-out, hazy on the edges yet sharp and real in the center. I didn’t quite get there with the bus hallucination sequence near the end, but the final shot is powerful, haunting, and devastating. That shot is why we watch movies. How much of the world would you burn to protect your children?

Best scene. The bath sequence with Paz and her daughter is so tender and open. The washing of the daughter’s hair serving as communion and confession, where anything can be shared, accepted, and loved.

Performance. Paz is extraordinary, her face constantly shifting from bottomless love, desperate fear, and exhausted rage. She inspires such strong empathy despite the actions of her character.

If you can handle it, see. This. film.
